Caps Send Cody Eakin Back to Hershey
Announced today by Caps General Manager George McPhee, Cody Eakin has once again been reassigned to the Hershey Bears.
As expected, Eakin filled in on Friday for Jay Beagle who recently returned to lineup after being out with a concussion. Usually in times like these, Mathieu Perreault would have been able to fill in for Beagle, but he too was out of the lineup, though because of an injury that he sustained just a few days earlier.
With this said, the fact that Eakin has already been sent back to Hershey is a good sign for Washington. It can be assumed that either Beagle, Perreault, or both are now healthy enough to return to the lineup tomorrow as the Calgary Flames come to town.
Eakin was pointless in his game with the Caps on Saturday, but had a hit and won three of four draws on the faceoff.
While he might not be too happy that he’s going back to the AHL again, Eakin’s return to the Bears is just in time for him to get a chance to lace up the skates to play outdoors this coming Friday in Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, the site of today’s Winter Classic. As part of the Winter Classic week of events, the Adirondack Phantoms, the Flyers’ AHL affiliate and former Philadelphia tenant, will play host to the Hershey Bears in a Friday night outdoor game that is expected to break the AHL’s all time attendance record.
