Third Jersey Takeover
Take a look as Ovechkin blasts one past Montreal goaltender Carey Price while wearing the team’s third jersey.
So how about those third jerseys worn by the Caps in last nights shutout over Montreal? Love ’em? Hate ’em? Regardless, you’re going to be seeing them a lot more often in the coming weeks and months to close out the regular season.
Out of the 20 remaining road games for the Caps this season, 13 games will be played wearing the Winter Classic/throwback third jerseys and only 7 games will be played wearing the team’s normal white road sweaters.
Out of the 3 remaining games in January, the Caps will wear their third jerseys for two games. Those two games will be played this Friday in Carolina and this Sunday in Shi..um, Pittsburgh.
As far as February goes, the Caps will wear their throwback sweaters for half of their road games. Like last night, the Caps will once again use their third jerseys against the Canadiens on February 4, followed by a third jersey showing just over a week later in New York against the Rangers on February 12, then again in Carolina on February 20, and finally just a few days later in Toronto on February 25.
Wearing their third jerseys for one more game than they did in February, the Caps will wear their throwbacks for 5 out of 7 road games in the month of March. The Caps’ first game in March wearing their third jerseys will come on March 10 in Boston, followed by a Friday night game in Winnipeg on March 16, a Sunday night game in Chicago on March 18, the next day in Detroit on March 19, and finally in Philadelphia on March 22.
Finally in April, the Caps will wear their third jerseys in both of their final road games of the month/entire season. These two games will be played in Tampa Bay on Monday, April 2 and in New York against the Rangers on Saturday, April 7.
Out of these 13 upcoming appearances for the Caps’ third jerseys, 9 of them will be nationally broadcasted on TV.
So far when wearing the third jerseys the Caps are 1-1-1 and have scored a total of 7 goals, but have given up 9 in return in the three games played (though one of those goals given up was in a game deciding shootout, so that doesn’t really count, right? I thought so).
Love ’em? Hate ’em? Ready or not, here they come!
